Hello again, everyone. Yes, I do realize it's been a month since I last posted something. Life gets in the way sometimes. Other times, I'm just too lazy to come up with a decent post.
A lot has happened since the beginning of the month. Mostly, I've just been working a lot, which is nothing new. I did get a trainee, Hannah, but I really didn't train her much because this is just a summer job for her before she goes back to App State in the fall, so I trained her for two weeks and let her watch some videos, and she's already on the schedule, so I really didn't have to do that much.
I went to orientation at Forsyth Tech a few weeks ago. My mom went with me, and the whole group went on a little campus tour, and then we listened to a presentation, and then we went to register for classes. The computers were down, so we just had our pictures taken and our student ID's made, and then we went home.
I ended up registering for classes when I got home. I'm taking ENG-111 (Expository Writing), COM-120 (Intro to Interpersonal Communications), CIS-110 (Into to Computers), and MAT-155 (Statistical Analysis), and I just went ahead and signed up for one more CHM-151 (General Chemistry I). So, I'm taking a total of 17 credit hours for the semester, which is scaring me a little, but one of my co-worker's, Becca, who also takes classes at Forsyth Tech, said most of the ones I'm taking are easy, so I (hopefully) shouldn't be too overwhelmed. Also, yay for financial aid!
I've found new tv shows to obsess over. My mom started reading the Game of Thrones books, and she's loving them, so we bought the dvd set for the first season (since we don't have HBO and it isn't on Netflix instant), watched it and loved it. We just bought the second season, so I'm sure we'll start that soon.
We're also obsessing over the BBC show, Sherlock, which is, by far, a much better modern-day adaptation than Elementary. The first two seasons (six episodes total) were on Netflix instant stream, and even though each episode was an hour and a half long, I think we finished all six episodes in, like, three days. It was that good. It's also the reason why Benedict Cumberbatch is my latest actor-obsession.
I finally did some reading this summer. I found a book at Ollie's that I'd been looking at forever ago at Barnes & Noble, but never bought, called The Name of the Star, which was a story about a girl at a London boarding school, and Jack the Ripper, and ghosts. It ended up being pretty decent, especially since it was a hardcover, normally $16.99, but priced at Ollie's for $2.99, because of a cosmetic flaw.
In other news, we lost power that Thursday during the storm, and didn't get it back on until Saturday evening. And even then, we didn't have tv, internet, or phone until Monday afternoon. It was really boring, but it was also why I got some reading done, which I guess I should be thankful for.
I celebrated my graduation with my dad's side of the family this weekend. A couple of my aunts & uncles came over, and my grandmother was there as well. We had a smorgasbord of appetizers for dinner (frozen stuff from Trader Joe's is actually really awesome), and then had an array of desserts. I got money, a giant Hello Kitty balloon, a Despicable Me minion t-shirt, and a blue, wooden "A" for my room, and my aunt said that they'd get me a laptop as a gift as soon as I picked one out, because the one I have now is five years old and the hard-drive is failing. So, I'm getting a new laptop for college!
I've been writing a lot lately...nothing special, just writing, which helps me relax. I have one document that's just shy of five thousand words, and I only just started it a week ago. Problem is, I don't finish any of the stories I start, so they just sit there on my computer and take up space. I have to learn to fix that.
Right, well, I think that's about it for now. The rest of the week is going to be busy, so I can't promise a new post until at least next week. I'm opening four days in a row this week, which means getting up at 4 in the morning to be at work at 6. Wish me luck.

A Simple Hug...
Nothing new really going on, but I thought I'd share a quote I found...
Millions and millions of years would still not give me half enough time to describe that tiny instant of all eternity when you put your arms around me and I put my arms around you. ~Jacques Prévert
I don't know exactly why...perhaps I've been really stressed out lately, or really down, or whatever...but I can't tell you what being on the receiving end of a hug does to my spirit. Not only the hugs from my family, which are particularly nice, but hugs from my co-workers as well. Jillian and I share a hug every time we work together, and I get a hug from Jonathan each day before he leaves, and it just feels good to have someone's arms around you.
I think I've taken notice of it recently because most of the important hugs in my life have been all about goodbyes. I've hugged teachers and friends on the last day of school, I've hugged one of my best friends before he moved across the country and again when he was returning to Utah after a long stay back in NC, I've hugged my grandparents before driving back to NC, knowing that because they live in NY, I won't see them again for months.
Now that my life has settled into some semblance of a routine, I find that the hugs I give and receive are more about "see you later" than "goodbye". They're hugs that say "I love you" or "thank goodness you're here" or "see you tomorrow" or "good job", and I love that.
I try not to stress about stuff too much, and I try to take pleasure in the simple things, in a beautiful day, or listening to a song I love, or, in this instance, being hugged. Because I've come to realize that hugs are one of the best things in the world.

Wonderful Weekend...
Yes, I know it's been awhile since I really gave you guys a good (aka fairly interesting) post. Today's may be decent. Also, I'm trying out a new layout/background thing...I figured it was about time for a change.
Work is really stressing me out right now. Our new manager, Chris, is trying all sorts of new stuff around the restaurant, but most of it ends up creating more work for us than what we were doing before he implemented the new stuff. Like taking names and clothing descriptions with every order. Or organizing the mayonnaise packets at the condiment bar so that they all stand on end. Or messing with the headset so that we don't have to press the button to talk to the customer, which means you can't say anything else to anyone because every word you say is being broadcast outside.
So, in general, work is stressful. I used to enjoy it, used to look forward to going in every day, but now, I dread it more often than I look forward to it. Honestly, the only two reasons I still go to work is because of A) the money and B) my co-workers. Which brings me to my little recap of this weekend...
I got up early on Saturday, got ready, and then went over to Target to buy this dress I had been looking at. Then, I came home, removed all the tags, packed a bag, and then went to work. I worked 11:00 to 2:00 on the front line, mostly bagging for either front line or drive thru, and then got to teach Jillian how to do a birthday party, which was awesome because the party group was really nice, and Jill is just really nice and we get along really well, as if we've known each other for longer than the six months we really have.
Anyway, we finished the party, cleaned everything up, and then we left. I went home, got ready, and watched the clouds start to gather. And of course, after being sunny all day when I was cooped up inside, it started to rain twenty minutes before I left the house again, this time for something more fun. A couple of us have been trying to get together outside of work for a while now, and so we all cleared our schedules for Saturday night for a night out. So, I got someone to cover the last part of my Saturday shift, and the five of us (Jonathan, who's a manager, and CJ, Jasmine, Jillian, and myself, who are all team leaders) were planning on meeting at Starbucks and then going somewhere to eat.
So, I got there early, happened to run into my uncle, chatted for a bit while I waited, then he left, and I waited some more. Jillian texted me that she was on her way, but that Jasmine and CJ weren't going to make it, so it ended up being just me, Jillian, and Jonathan, which was pretty awesome. Jonathan drove us to Chili's, and we just chilled and ate and talked, and it felt good. Not just to finally have a Saturday night off from work and out doing something, but also to be included in a group of people that I love being around and talking with. They've only known me for six months, and we really didn't become close until just a few months ago, so it's been really great to find people who want to include me in their plans.
Anyway, we left Chili's, and after walking a million miles to get to Jonathan's car, which he parked in the neighboring parking lot, we drove back to Starbucks and got coffee, and just sat and talked and chilled out, and discussed work and books and concerts and music and just everything, which was really nice. And the manager (who knows Jonathan by name because he's the one that always makes Starbucks runs if we've had a particularly long or tiresome time at work) brought over a slice of some sort of blueberry poundcake or something for us to nibble on, which was delicious and very nice of the guy.
We ended up just sitting and talking for almost two hours before we parted ways and headed home, and it was just the nicest evening I've had in a long time.I think we'll be going out with each other more often, if we can all get off from work at the same time.
On Sunday, we celebrated Mother's Day. We ended up chilling out for most of the day, and then getting chicken wings for dinner, having Mom open her gifts (a shirt, a new wallet, and a Red Lobster gift card), and then she and my brother watched an episode of Battlestar Gallactica, and then she and I watched Silver Linings Playbook, which was cute and hilarious and I loved it. And then, we watched some the ABC Family's Harry Potter marathon before going to bed.
This morning, I got up, got ready, and then went over to Chick-Fil-A to get the water bottle/Tervis cup I'd left there on Saturday so I could wash it before my shift tomorrow. I ended up going in the back to block off a couple of days on the schedule, and poked my head into the office to talk a bit with Jonathan while he was counting money for the change drawer. And I finally got my new pants that Byron ordered me forever ago but kept getting the size wrong.
I walked up to the front with Jonathan, and grabbed my cup, and then he promo'd out the chicken minis I was going to buy, so I got free breakfast this morning because of him. And then, I went home, ate my minis, and then grabbed Quinn and we went to La Caretta to meet my mom for lunch, which was nice.
And now, I'm just chilling out at the house. Going to clean my room, watch an episode of Smash, put the crockpot on for dinner, and just hang out for the day, since I've still got the entire work week ahead of me.

Wow, It's Been A Long Time...
Well, I officially feel terrible. It's been a very long time since I've typed anything up, and to make things worse, I don't really have much to talk about. It's been so long I've forgotten what I have and haven't talked about.
So, here's a short list of what I can remember that I've been up to.
- I celebrated my 18th birthday. Received a new radio for my car from my mom, a necklace from my dad. Had fun.
- Worked a 49-hour week at work one time. That was so dumb. But time-and-a-half pay for overtime? Yes.
- Got a promotion to Team Leader at work. Got two new black shirts (instead of maroon) and a new name badge with my job title underneath my name, and a set of keys (one of which opens the registers).
- Took a trip to Atlanta with some of my work-mates to see the Chick-Fil-A home office. Met Dan Cathy, one of the second generation owners. Ate in the awesome cafeteria. Had fun. Talked a lot with Jillian, and found out she likes a lot of the same music and tv shows that I do, and thank goodness she went on the trip because I would have had no one to talk to otherwise. And no one fun to room with.
- Went to a mandatory work meeting a couple of Sundays ago. Met Chris, our new service director. Spoke to the group about our trip to Atlanta. Went to our owner's house that evening for dinner with the rest of the team leaders and managers. Ate pizza and salad, chocolate pound cake with strawberries and whipped cream for dessert. Just sat around and talked, which was nice.
And that's about it. I've been getting really stressed at work lately, which I think is due to the fact that Chris is all about making drive-thru faster. He used to work at the Thruway location, and they apparently have one of the fastest drive-thru's in the franchise, and all he ever thinks about is the number of cars we're able to serve in the 12 to 1 lunch hour, and how that compares to Gordon's numbers over at Thruway.
He barely helps out at all, just stands there watching what we're doing in drive-thru and saying that we're on pace to do 115 cars or whatever. He's no help anywhere else, and the fact that he's just watching is stressing me out because as a Team Leader, I'm kind of in charge, but I haven't been officially trained in everything I need to know who to do and what needs to be done after lunch rush, and once 1:00 comes around, Chris and Byron just go back to the office to chit-chat, and Jonathan starts counting money (part of his new manager position), and I'm left all alone with a ton of new employees who need to be babysat and told what to do, or otherwise, they wander out into the dining room to clean, which is no help to me on front line. So, I'm just stressed.
But, other than that, life is good. Just trying to rest in between what seems like daily shifts and long ones at that. But, it's all good. I promise I'll try and post something more interesting soon!

What I Do At Work...
Well, it's been a while...again. Seriously though, I have good intentions, but I've been so busy...
Really, most of my time is being taken up by work. It seems like all I do is go back and forth to Chick FIl A, but I guess that's okay. It's fun to be there. Everyone's really nice. And we play around a bit while we work, which is awesome.
Like last Tuesday. I worked 11:30 to 2:30, then went home for an hour, and came back to work 4:00 to 9:00. One of the other girls, Jillian, did something similar - got off at 2:00, came back at 5:00, and so we were kind of in the same boat in terms of being a bit tired. Daniel Moore and Daniel Garner were working front-line with myself and Jillian, along with our managers, Meg and Taylor, and we were all acting a bit crazy.
We talked about spirit animals and unicorns, and then somehow, the conversation turned to which one of us could take the other in a fight. And in the words of my manager, Meg, to both Daniels, "Alexis could take both of you." We were giggling the entire night.
On Thursday night, I stayed late to work part of the dinner shift, and ended up working at the window in drive-thru. I went back to get let Mave, one of the kitchen people, know that I needed a cup of shredded cheese for an order of chicken tortilla soup, and as I was moving from front-line back to the kitchen, I happened to jokingly say, "Move, get out of my way," to Jonathan, and then went back into the kitchen to speak to Mave.
He happened to come back just after me, and passed me down the little corridor. And as I was waiting for the cheese, I happened to wipe my hands on the sides of my pants, which were, of all things, wet. And then I realized that he'd had a spray bottle in his hands when he passed me. So, he had literally sprayed the back of my pants as he was passing by. And of course, I started laughing immediately.
He ended up bagging for me in drive-thru for part of the night, and got me laughing again when a particularly noisy car or motorcycle went down the street, by saying "Alexis!" as if I'd farted. And yes, I know I'm too old for fart jokes, but still...it was funny in the moment. (You know you've been working too long when you laugh at fart jokes.)
I worked the dining room on Friday night, and ended up only really working half the dining room because there was a surprise baby shower taking place in the other half. Dillon was in the cow suit, and hamming it up as usual, and I talked a bit with an older lady and her ninety-something year old father, about when she used to be the kangaroo for Brenner Children's Hospital and all the silly things she did, which was fun to listen to.
I also talked with a little girl and her father, and helped them out a bit, got them napkins and straws and things, made her ice cream when she was ready for it, that sort of thing. And the dad was super nice. Even asked if we were allowed to accept tips, which, unfortunately, we aren't, so I got the feeling he was going to tip me for my help. They were about to leave, and the little girl, Finley, I think her name is, saw the baby shower ballons, and started screaming "Balloons! Balloons!" and her dad was all like, "No, honey, they're not your balloons, you can't have them."
So, I went over and asked her if she'd like a balloon, and her eyes lit up. So, I went in the back and blew up a balloon and put it on a string, and came out and gave it to her. And her dad was just like, "Thank you. You just made her night," and I felt really good about it. So, that was a fun night.
I went to our owner's "Visions and Values" meeting on Sunday, which was pretty boring, considering it's really for new employees, and I've been working there for over three months. But, they had done one just before I got hired, so this was the first one they'd done since. It was nothing more than what I'd already heard before at the mandatory fall meeting - survey scores, and loving on the customer, and all that. But, the owner did make an exmaple of me by saying, "If you want to learn what to do, you watch Alexis. She puts on that big smile, and she loves on the customer. She's a rockstar." So, that was pretty neat.
On Monday, I worked 11:45 to 4:00. I worked window in drive-thru for just over an hour, which was pretty funny, because it was raining. Normally, from 12:00 to 1:00, someone goes outside to take orders, and they have a person making drinks inside. But, because of the rain, I was at window, Jasmine was bagging for me, Jonathan was taking orders on the headset, and Jillian was making drinks for him.
Now, it's a pretty small area in drive-thru, and we kept laughing because Jillian would reach past Jonathan to put a drink on the ledge (we line up all the drinks on the ledge by the window), and Jonathan would laugh because she'd accidentally brush against his side, and he's ticklish. So, we were cracking up all afternoon because Jonathan would giggle at the most random moments.
I took headset from Jonathan after a while, and because it was busy, I really didn't notice when people started leaving. And then, all of a sudden, at like 3:00, it was just myself, Jonathan, and Morgan working. So, we tried our hardest to get things stocked and cleaned and everything between orders, and I think we ended up doing a pretty good job for only being three people managing drive-thru and front-line and doing the stocking and cleaning.
Yesterday, I got into work at 7:30 in the morning, and was scheduled to work until 3:30pm. I ended up clocking out at 4:00pm, only after having to ask my manager if I could, because I really needed a bit of a break. Because I clocked back in at 4:30, and worked the Family Night craft out in the dining room. Tyler, who was on front-line for the night, kept mouthing "I envy you" from across the room, because I was basically getting paid to sit at the table and help little kids make snow measuring sticks, which was pretty fun.
I've kind of been the go-to "yes" person as of late. Can you come in early? Yes. Can you stay late? Yes. Can you work a birthday party? Yes. Can you do the Family Night craft? Yes. So, my hours have been through the roof. I think I worked about twenty-five hours last week, and I'll work just over thirty this week, so it's been a bit tiring, but I love feeling like I'm actually doing something productive.
I had today off, which was awesome. I work three hours tomorrow and eight hours on Friday. I'll spend Friday night at my dad's, and chill out there for most of Saturday. Saturday night, my mom, brother, and I are going to dinner with my aunt and uncle to celebrate my uncle's birthday. I'll probably relax on Sunday, and then, I'm going to have lunch with Emma (and hopefully Sylvia and Anita) at Olive Garden on Monday, which I'm really looking forward to. I don't think I've seen Emma since just before Christmas of 2011, so I think it's been over a year? Which is crazy. And then more work...Tuesday night, which should be insanely crazy, due to Pajama Night, off on Wednesday, working Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Really, most of my time is being taken up by work. It seems like all I do is go back and forth to Chick FIl A, but I guess that's okay. It's fun to be there. Everyone's really nice. And we play around a bit while we work, which is awesome.

New Year's Adventures...
Well, crap, it's been a long time since I last posted. Well, I definitely have been busy, so I do have an excuse.
So, I worked at Chick Fil A on Christmas Eve, and oh my gosh, it was so busy. We had a register open specifically to handle all the catering/tray orders, and I can't tell you how many gallons of tea we sold. It was crazy, but extremely fun.
We went to my aunt & uncle's for Christmas Eve dinner, and we had steak, and salad, and sweet potatoes, and then opened gifts, and then had cherry chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Then, we visited for a while before heading home, reading The Night Before Christmas, and stuffing each other's stockings before going to bed.
In the morning, we sat around and opened gifts, and really just chilled out. I got a lot of the things I wanted - new boots, some dvds - and some things that I didn't really even know I wanted - Lite Brite, Chuzzle, a personalized Tervis cup. We ended up watching The Nutcracker on tv, and then had lunch, and I took a nap...stupid lingering cold.
Then, my dad picked Quinn and I up, and we went over to my grandmother's. We ate with my dad's family - my grandmother, and a few of our aunts & uncles - and then opened gifts. My dad got me what I asked for - books - but also got me some other cool things - socks, a BP gift card, an iTunes card, and these awesome Dove chocolates with cinnamon graham cracker pieces inside.
We went back to the house later on in the evening, to find our usual "under our room trees" gift, and mine was a pair of silver skull stud earrings, which were pretty awesome. And then, really, we just went to bed. My mom got me a doctor's appointment on Wednesday, and the doctor diagnosed it as a sinus infection, and gave me some medicine, and really, it's still lingering even now. Not as bad, but still lingering.
I went to work on Thursday, which was uneventful, and then on Friday, we left for New York. We got all the way in one day, and settled in at my aunt & uncle's. On Saturday, more of the family arrived, and some more on Sunday, and by the time New Year's Eve came, we were 26 in the house.
I went to the mall with my cousins on New Year's Eve, and we ended up driving an hour to get to the Palisades Mall, which is huge. Four floors of stuff. We walked around a bit, had dinner at Yard House on the fourth floor of the mall, and then walked around a bit more. I got offered a job while perusing through Abercrombie & Fitch, which was weird, but slightly flattering, and we basically just chilled out for the afternoon.
We drove back to my aunt & uncle's, and then got dressed up in our fancy clothes, and had dinner, and took some family photos, and then all the kids hung around in the basement, playing pool or watching people play pool, and then we went upstairs to count down to the new year. We toasted with sparkling cider, and went out on the deck to pop poppers, and then all the kids stayed up until three in the morning, playing ping pong and video games and just chilling out in the basement.
Everyone left on Tuesday, and then we went into the city on Wednesday. We took a 10:00 train, arrived just before 11:30, and walked up from Grand Central to the Nintendo Store, where Quinn bought a bunch of stuff. Then, we walked around Rockefeller Center, took some pictures, and perused the Lego Store, which we never went into last year because it was so busy, they actually had a line to get in.
Then, we walked up to 65th Street, and found Lincoln Center, to see our first show of the day, War Horse. It was really amazing. The puppet-work was so cool, watching three people animate this huge horse. So awesome. Everything was really dramatic and cool and I loved it. We got out just before 5:00, and walked down to 48th Street to have dinner at Hurley's Saloon, which I had scoped out beforehand. The food was really good - I had a hanger steak sandwich with fries, and it was really yummy. The chocolate mousse cake and the Tollhouse pie were really good, too.
We finished up, and since we were early for our show, we took a walk around Times Square, and poked around in the M&M store, and then went back to 48th to the Walter Kerr Theatre to see The Heiress, which was amazing. The set was gorgeous, the costumes were beautiful, the acting was awesome, and I loved it. Surprisingly, my brother loved it too, which was really crazy, considering it was a 2 hour, 45 minute play with no songs, no set changes, no exciting plot twists.
We exited the theatre, and headed off to our right, to the stage door, where they'd set up a set of barricades, and we waited around for a bit with the rest of the crowd. Dan Stevens came out first, and since we were pretty far back, we didn't get to see him up close. He made his way around, and then came back toward the door to go back inside, and my mom managed to sneak through the crowd, and get him to sign our playbill, and told him her son was a big fan and could he get a picture with him, and so Quinn sidled up and we got a picture before he went back inside.
Somehow, we managed to back out of the crowd, and then I snuck back in, and somehow managed to get a spot right on the railing next to the door. We waited a few more minutes, and Jessica Chastain came out, and I got to be the first one to meet her, and I got her to sign my playbill, and get a picture with her. She was so nice and so sweet, didn't make a fuss when it took my mom forever to figure out my camera, just said to take our time, and she was so appreciative when I told her I thought the performance was great, and I was just giddy the entire night afterwards. So, we hopped on the 12:08 train, got in to Beacon at 1:34 in the morning, where my aunt picked us up, and we headed back to the house for some sleep.
We chilled out on Thursday, ran a few errands with my aunt, and then everyone went out to eat at the diner down the road from the house. We ate, then headed back to the house, and then started packing to leave the next morning. We left at 7:30, drove for a while, got McDonald's for lunch (ate on the road), and then got into Winston around 5:30 or so. We dropped off the rental car, and then had dinner at La Carreta, and then went home and chilled for the night.
Our weekend was spent just chilling out, unpacking, putting away the Christmas stuff, and watching The Walking Dead and Downton Abbey. And I cleaned Ella's cage and slept a ton, and that was that.
Went to work today, and after having a week off, it felt weird to get back into it, and yet it was exactly like riding a bicycle...you just never forget. Surprisingly, four hours went by really fast, and at 4:00, I left and came home. We washed dishes, made dinner, and then watched a little tv, and then Mom and Quinn played Lego Lord of the Rings while I let Ella out downstairs.
On the agenda for the week - work on Tuesday, dinner with my dad on Wednesday, work on Thursday, work on Friday, and work on Saturday. I have to go into Chick Fil A on Sunday for the owner's Visions & Values talk, which all new employees have to listen to, but I never did because he had just done one when I got hired, work on Monday, work on Tuesday (which will be long, because I'm working eight hours, off for an hour, and then I'll be doing the kid craft for Family Night for four hours or so), probably dinner with my dad on Wednesday, work on Thursday, and work on Friday. So, busy for the next two weeks.

Way Too Busy...
Okay, so this weekend has been really busy, actually. Quick recap, because I have no idea what else to write about.
So, I got a haircut on Friday...just a trim up, nothing more, but it still feels significantly shorter, but I guess I like it. We spent the day running errands, and then my mom and my aunt went to pick up my aunts from the airport. They were flying in from NY for the weekend, to visit and celebrate my mom's birthday and make Christmas cookies. So, then, we visited for a bit, and then we went to bed.
On Saturday, I went in to work to do a party in the morning, and my mom, brother, and aunts came in and had breakfast and laughed at me when I had to get in the kid cow outfit, and the birthday party was kind of boring. Then, I went home for a few hours, then came back to Chick Fil A to do a second birthday party, this one in the afternoon.
Dillon and I both worked it, and though it was supposed to be a large party for 20 kids, only 12 showed, so it ended up being a bit of a bust. Dillon's a very nice guy, though. He's pretty funny...he reminds me a bit of my cousin's friend, Brandon, in that sarcastic way.
So, Saturday night, we went to my aunt's for dinner, opened gifts, and had cake and ice cream to celebrate my mom and my aunt's birthdays (my mom's is the 15th, my aunt's is the 31st). And we spent the evening chilling out and hanging out, which was fun.
On Sunday, we went over to Marshall's to poke around, and my aunts ended up buying me a dress and jacket for our New Year's Eve party at my aunt's house later this month, which was awesomely nice. Then, we went back to the house, had lunch, and then I drove my aunts and Quinn out to the mall, and we poked around and did some shopping, and then went to Kohl's and did some more shopping before heading back home. I got ready, and then Mom and I went to the Chick Fil A Christmas party.
It was a ton of fun. They had a picture area, where they had different props all on sticks (glasses, hats, beards, etc) and you could get your picture taken in this frame thing, which was fun. They had a guessing game out, where you could put in your guess as to how many peppermint candies were in the jar, and the winner got a prize.
Then, we had dinner, and dessert, and then they played a cool little game. Each table got one candy cane filled with Hershey kisses, and the object was to pass the candy cane to the left or to the right every time you heard 'left' or 'right'. Our kitchen manager, Travis, read Twas The Night Before Christmas, but they had added in some 'left's and 'right's to the story, like "the prancing and pawing of each little left and right hoof". Whoever was left with the candy cane at each table at the end of the story got a prize. Miss Lisa, our day-time dining room lady, won at our table.
Then, they announced that Ashley had won the peppermint candy guessing game, and then, Meg and Taylor came up to announce their Team Member awards, which were hilarious. It's not serious at all, it's more just joking around, but it was so awesome. They gave out water bottles as awards, with the name of the award written on a slip of paper inside.
They named Daniel and Matt the best couple, since they're always in the back talking about how awesome their latest workout was or whatever. Lori, one of our marketing ladies, got the Crossover Award, for learning the register. Jonathan got an award for taking a little too long to clean things. Zach got the Whistle While You Work Award, and then couldn't whistle on command when he went up to accept it. Becca got a special award...Ain't Got No Time for Becca, or something like that. My mom got the Show Some Teeth Award. Edgar, one of our kitchen guys won the Mucho Relaxed Award. Jillian won the Probation Award.
And then, Mr. Moore and his wife spoke for a bit, and then we all said goodnight and left, picking up our (what I'm dubbing) cocoa trees (clear glass tree-shaped jars with hot cocoa mix, chocolate chips, and marshmallows in them) on the way out. We came home, and visited with my aunts for a bit before going to bed.
On Monday, my aunts left in the morning, and then I went out in the afternoon to run some errands, and then came home, got changed, and went to work at 4:00. And it was so slow. They had four thousand people scheduled...so many that they sent Tyler home half an hour after he'd clocked in. I was out in the dining room, and I had to find stuff to do to keep busy. I took my break around 5:30, and sat with Jonathan and Kristen in the break area, and chatted for a bit. Apparently, Jonathan was pushing for me to get the Probation Award, which was neat to hear.
So, I ended up restocking the condiment bar, and cleaning tables, and getting refills for the rest of the night, and went home about 15 minutes early because I had nothing left to do. I came home, had a second dinner because Mom had picked up Arby's, and then cleaned Ella's cage and went to bed.
On Tuesday, I got called in to work the lunch rush, because there was a bus of 70 Meadowlark chorus kids coming in at 12:15, so I worked like crazy, and then went home, got changed, wrapped a few gifts, and then took Quinn back to Chick Fil A to get a picture with the Santa Cow, and then we went to my grandmother's to go pick out a Christmas tree and decorate her house with my dad.
Wednesday was normal, except that by the time I got to work at 4:00, I was starting to lose my voice from this partial cold I have, so that sucked. By the end of my shift, I could barely talk, which sucked, and to make matters worse, I woke up this morning and could barely talk at all. Hoping that it comes back by tomorrow morning...otherwise, I am definitely going to have to have someone take my Friday evening shift.
I think my computer has a virus. It is super slow, doesn't do what it's supposed to, and my email is acting up. So, if you get any emails from me asking for money, they're fake. I think I'll end up having to get Mom to call Summit's IT guy to see if he can just restore it to factory settings, and I'll probably spend the next few days saving all my important documents to discs. Sucks.
Anyway, nothing much going on. A couple more shifts at work, then Christmas, one shift at work, then I'll be leaving for New York for New Years...wow, time sure does fly.
